One of the reasons I love France so much is for its unabashed passion for food.

I have an article about Paris on  cntraveller.com and seeing the photos reminded me of my favorite season in Paris---Autumn.   I used to think it was Spring, but no, fall is fabulous in the city of light, with hues of gold and crimson flickering around the river and parks.

At the age of 12, I had an epiphany on a baseball diamond at a park near my house. I was in the batter’s box and was suddenly keenly aware of my absence. I could no longer hear the clapping hands of the coach as he belted out orders, or the encouraging hollers of the Saturday morning crowd. Well sports fans, it's official.  I am no longer a Belgian resident. (insert melodramatic violin sequence here).

On 7 July, I went to my commune and turned in my residence card that would have allowed me to happily stay five more years, after the six I have already spent.  I'm pretty sure the guy had to pry my fingers off of it.  I am sad. I was invited to a wedding, my 2nd invitation in 4 years of living here (I am not that popular among the Belgians I guess) and ...I am going to have to miss this one too!!! Disappointed to say the least because what better way is there to understand a culture than to be invited into the inner sanctum on the most intimate of days?
